--Trolls are the Dominant Species on Earth--
The invasion of Earth happened too early in human history for humans to even be considered a nuisance. The only thing that spared them from being immediately wiped out was their potential -- they could make fires and rudimentary weapons, and were clearly capable of learning, which meant they were capable of being taught. Perhaps it was a moment of amusement for the strange, helpless beasts that had somehow clawed their way, stupidly, to dominance on the planet, but trolls decided that first day they came down to overtake the planet.
The Earth's sun was kinder to their skin, less likely to burn them right through. It was possible to go out during the day without a sun coat. The flora and fauna from their home planet was nonetheless as at home down on Earth as it had been on Alternia. Lusii naturae merged into the ecosystem and flourished.
Instead of merely colonizing, Her Imperious Condescension decided that this new planet would now be the home planet. Alternia was left to its own devices, and trolls rebuilt and grew their civilization on the fertile ground of Earth.
Through the ages and growth of troll civilization on the planet that had once been their home, the human race was subjugated and treated as animals. But though they were made slaves, pets, playthings to the trolls, they continued their own evolutionary path quietly, from under the thumb of their captors. They took up the troll language as their own, learned to survive and in surviving to fight.
In silence and servitude, they learned fearlessness and rebellion.
Nowadays, humans are bred and raised to be sold. Though they respond as expected to troll terms such as sweeps, they keep their own beliefs and terms to themselves. Six sweeps, the age at which they could start being sold, became equated with the number thirteen, which had long been associated with bad luck or bad circumstances.
Most humans keep their heads down, and barely allow themselves to dream of anything different than misery. But the few, the strong, still remain. And those that can, fight.
Their strength is gathering. Those trolls who are sympathetic with their cause help them quietly, keeping their hiding places safe and unnoticed. The rebellion waits, on the horizon but ever growing closer.
What side will you be on?
